JOE MANNIX
White Flag

(Bongo Beat)
***
Mamas, we have a problem. Ever since the public advisory went out, your efforts at not letting your babies grow up to be cowboys have been nothing short of heroic. Sadly, the same cannot be said for your guard against them becoming folk-rockers. Yes, we know: your little baby is a lovely rhymer with an angel's voice and strong feelings about 4/4 time. As good as Bob Dylan on the harmonica, too? You don't say! Mamas, PLEASE. Come off it. Less strumming of guitars and riding in old trucks, more doctors, lawyers and such - it's what we wanted; it's what we asked for. Do you see how folk-rock doesn't exactly help? Oh, God... don't cry, mamas! We were just trying to... please don't cry... okay, okay, forget it. Let 'em play all the folk-rock they want, but can't you at least talk to them about what they're driving?
