| The much anticipated follow
up to last year's near brilliant Pretty Strange finds guitarist/vocalist
Joe Mannix and drummer/harmony vocalist Chris Peck incorporating bassist
Toby Graham and guitarist Todd Le Cuyer into the mix for the denser,
heavier, even more radio friendly pop sound that drives Come to California.
Featuring Caleb Southern (Ben Folds Five) behind
the boards for the penetrating "Geraldine" and the instantly
memorable "Highway Lines" with Mannix shaping the remaining
14 tracks; a recent EP showcased the sweetly sung "Best Suit";
the uplifting Steely Dan-by-way-of-Jefferson Airplane hippy-dipped
title track; a Squeeze-like pop-jangler known as "Leave the
Past Behind"; and the flic-your-Bic because things'll be better
Badfinger ballad with an ELO heart called "Sunshine".
Additional strokes of genius on this genre-jumping
wonder include: the top 20 appeal of "Heard You Got Home",
" Sunset&Vine", "Go West" and "Salvation";
the angsty harmonies of" My Flag and my Flower"; the McCartney-esque
drive of "Take My Blues Away" and "Tired of Thinking
About You"; the moody focus of "Holding IT All Together";
the gorgeous "Feel The Way I Do"; and "Gasoline's"
chugging beat and nasty sense of humor.
